6.5, 22 cal and 6mm Expander Mandrels
  • Sgt of Arms AR Optimized Expander Mandrels

Introducing the Sgt of Arms AR Optimized Expander Mandrels - the ultimate addition for reloading enthusiasts who demand the most precision and accuracy out of reloading for their AR. These are designed specifically for the AR 15/10 style firearms that require increased neck interference (Neck Tension) to achieve maximum accuracy. These mandrels have shown more consistent results in bolt guns as well over the .002" neck tension historically used.

These diameters are what have won countless PRS- Pro Series Gas Gun Matches, Sniper Competitions across the globe, a pair of Pro-Gas Gun Championships, and three PRS Pro-Finale Victories. We have had our own custom mandrels made for use between our competitors for years. We want to make sure every gas gun shooter can enjoy these new evolutions for them. These diameters are the correct final size for all brass makes including Alpha OCD Brass.

This die is perfect for preparing your new or fired, cleaned, annealed (recommended not required), resized cases. The expander mandrel works perfectly with Sinclair, 21st Century and SoA Mandrel body dies. These are Precision Ground from 4140 Steel. Then they are hardened well past any form of necessity, and finished ground to final dimensions, and our desired surface finish, all right here in the great state of Texas! This ensures each cylinder is perfectly concentric and uniform as the neck is expanded. This process also ensures these mandrels maintain their size for years and tens of thousands of cases to come unlike its stainless steel alternatives. These are available in 22cal, 6mm, and 6.5mm and hope to be adding .257 and .30 caliber options soon.

We also recommend not holding the side walls of the cartridge cases with a die body, while using neck expander mandrels, as you normally want to do with brass out of bolt guns. AR fired brass routinely has oblong or unevenly oversized bases and can cause unwanted oblong neck alignment of the brass. They often cause binding at the base which doesn't allow the full shaft of the mandrel to go through the neck the same as the other cases mandreled.

The 22 caliber (+.220") has been tested and optimized for, but not limited to:
    223 Rem (all brass)
    5.56 Nato (all brass)
    223 Wylde chambers shooting 223 or 5.56
    22 Nosler (Nosler brass)
22 ARC (Hornady and Alpha brass)
    22 Grendel (all brass)
22 GT ( Alpha or Hornady necked down 6mm GT brass)
22 Creedmoor (All brass and any sized down for 6.5MM or 6MM Creedmoor we can find on the market over the years)

The 6mm variant (.2397") has been tested and optimized for, but not limited to:
6 ARC (All brass, even sized down 6.5 Grendel brass)
6GT (Hornday, Alpha and should work well in Lapua when it is released)
6x47 Lapua  (necked down 6.5x47L Lapua and Alpha OCD brass)
    6 Creedmoor (All brass)

6.5MM (.2605") has been tested and optimized for, but not limited to:
    6.5 Grendel (All Brass)
    6.5 Creedmoor (All Brass)

Mandrel Body Die, free float & axial alignment model.

This die is comparable with .223-.338 Lapua cartridge cases.

It requires the use of the expander manderals to function. These are compatible with our mandrels and with mandrels from a few other companies like Sinclair and similar 21st Century models. It will work on a single stage or progressive press. We recommend using our precision ground carbide mandrels for long term consistency.

This die holds the expander mandrel from Sgt of Arms, Sinclair, similar modeled 21st century mandrels.

Please, leave the cap limiting spacer in place while in use. It allows for free floating alignment of the mandrel reguardless of use on a progressive or single stage press. Extra time and consideration has been taken to ensure axial alignemnt of the mandrel in the center expander mandrel channel, while threaded into a press.

Extra care and consideration as been taken to ensure it works with all shell plate holders on presses readily available such as Co-Ax, Dillon 550/650/750/1050, Hornady Lock & Load Press & Accessories

    Directions:

We recomend you to run the brass through the expander mandrel die before trim chafer and deburing, then again after inside neck chamfering to yield the most consistent results regarless of brass manufacutrter. This flattens out any inner neck burrs that may exist post trimming, chamfering and deburing along with uniforming the neck. Thus setting up the finished surface of the inner neck for the most uniform influence to the projectile possible.

**This die should be used after resizing your brass without the full size expander ball in place**

    Instalation and set up:

    • Remove the cap, the cap limiting spacer and the mandrel
    • Insert a piece of brass onto the shell holder of your press and bring the ram to the top of the stroke. (The brass should be as high as it will go on the upstroke now.)
    • Screw the body die until the top of the case neck is even with the bottom most edge of the mandrel opening as viewed from above the die.
    • From there back out the die one half a revolution.
    • Tighten the lock ring in place.
    • Insert the mandrel and then the cap limitng spring.
    • Screw on the cap to where it is just snug on the on the cap limiting spring.
    • Lubricate the mandrel and start your brass prep process.
